Of all the Young Adult series about vampires, the Vampire Academy series is probably my favorite. This sequel was very enjoyable. I couldn't put it down after I started reading.
I love the relationships between all the characters, Rose especially. When she deeply cares for someone, you can feel it in your soul how much she loves them. Her and Lissa's connection is a really unique way to show inside Lissa's head, without actually having her point of view. Rose and Dimitri's relationship is strained, and Rose is almost positive that there will be nothing between them ever again; especially when a new woman comes into the picture. The friendship between Rose and Mason is growing. He obviously would do anything, and I mean anything for Rose. We find out though, that moving on isn't so easy when you care so deeply for someone. There is also the introduction of Rose's mother, and this definitely throws Rose's world for a loop.
Some of the decisions Rose made were questionable, and the outcome was obvious, but it was nice to see her use what she has learned at St. Vladimir's Academy, and put that to use out in the real world.

Great book! One of the best series I've picked up in awhile. Just can't put it down (it even took precedence over 360!) and can't wait to start the next one.
This book started out a little slow in my opinion. But once I got into the story, I was hooked! The end is what makes it better than the first book. It got my heart literally racing, and I did shred a tear or two. Amazing book. Amazing series. Amazing author.
excellent book to read if u like twilight even though it is more for a teenagers then adults
This series has a young adult feel to it (plot-wise), but very adult content in it (sex, language, violence). I enjoyed the Twilight series a lot more. I would not let my teen son or daughter read this series. As I have read this series I have found myself wondering why there isn't a rating system (similar to video games) for books. I think this should be a 18+ rating!
This may have been better than the first book although you must read these books in order. Another quick read with character development among all the key players and real growth in Rose as a young woman.

For some reason I really thought this story was about Lissa, the Moroi princess, but it appears to be Rose's story. I particularly liked the prologue as it explained some important things that were glossed over (or just skipped) in Vampire Academy.
Rose is in love with Dimitri, her trainer and he appears to have feelings for her as well. The problem is that they will both be Lissa's guardians and can't get involved because it could compromise Lissa's safety. You know, into each other and not watching for bad guys. They are doing the right thing by trying to stay away from each other but it's hard when you're in love.

Rose finds out she can't stay out of her friend Lissa's head while she is making out with her new boyfriend Christian. A Strogi attack at the Academy forces everyone into a mandatory winter ski retreat over the holidays. Rose sees her mother and isn't sure of her feelings about that, along with her increasing romantic interest in her workout partner and guard Dimitri. Christian learns to fight with fire and Rose and he rescue some of the trapped students using that power and her combat skills. Of course she is castigated for taking such risks but pulls it all off. A fairly exciting read.
Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series continues to suck me in -- no pun intended. In Frostbite, Rose and Lissa are getting back to normal after the events at the end of the first book. Rose is still conflicted by her feelings for her mentor, Dimitri and passing time with Mason, her friend and fellow dhampir -- whose feelings run far deeper than her own. At the same time, Dimitri seems to be starting a relationship with someone else -- a much older royal Moroi vampire -- and Rose's best friend Lissa and her boyfriend Christian are more in love than ever before.
All of these relationship issues take a backseat, however, when the threat of Strigoi -- evil, bloodthirsty vampires that prey on the gentle Moroi vampires -- comes frighteningly close to home. To protect the students from the threat of attack, Dimitri and the other guardians plan to relocate the school to a remote ski resort for an impromptu holiday trip.
As Dimitri and Rose's new relationships begin to develop, however, they're repeatedly brought together and reminded of their attraction for one another. Despite the attention of Mason and Adrian, an older, wealthy Moroi playboy that also has his eye on Rose, she can't seem to come to terms with her feelings for Dimitri. In fact, she realizes that her love for him might be the only thing that could prevent her from doing her duty and putting Lissa first in every situation -- as a guardian should.
But when Rose -- along with Lissa's boyfriend Christian, Mason and other students from school -- finds herself held hostage by ancient and vicious Moroi, Rose must rely on her training and her resolve to get them out alive.

This book progressed the series quite nicely and added more layers to the word of vampires and their guardians. This Ya book series is another than teens are going to have to fight their parents over who gets to read it first. I love the fact that there are so many great YA paranormals out there that parents and kids can enjoy together.

Though there were a few scenes that lagged, I had a hard time putting this book down even for necessities like eating and sleeping.

Really enjoyed this book though a lot of "sex" talk if you know what i'm talking about....more than what I thought should be in a young adult novel. I wouldn't want my young adult reading this but I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

The second installation in the wildly popular Vampire Academy series will hardly disappoint. It contains the usual amounts of good writing, enthralling world-building, and tortured love triangles that I have come to love about Richelle's books.
What struck me most was Richelle Mead's absolute confidence with Rose's voice. For all her faults, doubts, and mistakes, Rose is an impeccable narrator, able to give us all the information we need and engage our full attention at the same time. Richelle mixes an ideal blend of backstory and current action so that readers are never at a loss for what's going on and why certain events are so dire.
FROSTBITE delivers in terms of romantic passion as well. You really can't have a bestselling series without some unforgettable romances, which is why the tensions between Rose, Dimitri, and Mason are so exciting to read about. The introduction and/or further development of other characters suggest possibilities of other match-ups in future installations, so I'm really looking forward to that.

Amazingly I managed to not pick this book up for almost an entire year after reading the first in the series. However now I will be picking up Shadow Kiss right away.
This book starts off with a bang but almost immediately hits a lull. The lull is still interesting, its just not action packed. More of a section filled with information you need to know but presented in a slower pace. And then the last 150 pages hitand you cant put the book down. It has a fantastic ending and you really get a good feel for the characters, who they are and what drives them. I now feel much more connected with the characters and am genuinely concerned about what may happen to them.
As I stated in my review of Vampire Academy there is some mention of cutting and this is a grittier read than Twilight or The House of Night books. I recommend this series for an older teen, 16+

Another hit in this teen series. Richelle Mead really knows how to draw a reader in.
I enjoyed the first book in the series, but didn't love it completely, so I was a little hesitant to read the second book.
Well, I loved it. The storyline was captivating, the characters were more likeable, the plot twists were great. Now I can't wait to read the third.

Rose and Lissa are continuing their education at St. Vladimir's and Rose is continuing her training as a guardian. She is scheduled for a test with a very prominent guardian when horror strikes. The Strigoi are on the move. They are mixing with humans to eliminate the royals.
This book was slower building than the first one, but once you are involved, this is the book that will make you want to continue reading the series. Rose grows so much in this book, both mentally and emotionally. Strong character, but we can see that she has a lot of heart also.
The bond between her and Lissa is not as strong in this book, but the action taking place is outside of that connection in this book.
