Carmen Escobedo was the spoiled, pampered daughter of her small island country's president. But having your country overthrown and father murdered by evil, violent, and greedy men can change a girl.

After sneaking back into Vistaria from safety in Acapulco, Carmen joins a band of Loyalist's hiding in a secret jungle encampment to help win back her country from the Insurrectos. The group of freedom fighters is led by American doctor Garrett Blackburn sent by the World Health Organization to provide medical care in war zones. He has also taken up the cause of the Loyalists leading covert military missions to stop the Insurrectos and protect the Vistarian people from their violence and evil.

At first, Carmen and Garrett clash horribly but as the time for the Loyalists' big push to regain control closes in, they find common ground in their goals and freedom from their pasts in each other's arms.

This fourth book in author Tracy Cooper-Posey's romantic suspense series, Vistaria Has Fallen, is fast paced and hold the reader's interest from beginning to end. Although it does continue a storyline begun at the end of series' book two, Prisoner of War (where Carmen stumbles into Garrett's Loyalist camp), Freedom Fighters can be enjoyed as a standalone story. However, I recommend reading the entire series in order for maximum entertainment and to really get the feel for Carmen's transformation from spoiled brat to freedom fighter. I recommend this book (and the entire series) to romance readers that enjoy their stories with a military flavor, a lot of suspense and action. As an FYI, sex is discussed but the descriptions of sexual encounters are well done and not graphic.
