I'm loving these emails showing free kindle books as they become available.  Someone posted this on the previous ereader thread but I thought it is worth mentioning again.

Oh yeah. I spent about $30 a month or so ago by way of CheapReads. It's worse than the remainders table at Borders. :-)

Deadly Sanctuary by Sylvia Nobel (Mystery)

Deadly Sanctuary is the first title in Sylvia Nobel's popular mystery series, featuring spirited, flame-haired reporter Kendall O'Dell. The author's trademark style is to produce exciting, well-written, edge-of-your-seat, adventures with "knock your socks off" surprise endings. Her judicious use of language and lack of graphic sex and violence make her novels suitable from teens to seniors.

Eight Free Books (Kindle)

In addition to the five free romance titles this morning and the six free in the UK only, there are another eight titles free for Kindle today (at least, they are free for US customers). For convenience, I'm grouping them all together, but tell me what you think -- would you prefer to see the titles one at a time? It's easier to search for them by genre, I would think, and it's easier for me to update if a book ends up free in another format. If you get the RSS feed or Kindle subscription or follow on Twitter, a group like this doesn't grab me like individual titles might. Or, do you prefer a grouped pile of books when freebies arrive (assuming they are all found at the same time), even if they are different genres?

A Dog Named Slugger, by Leigh Brill

Book Description
The true life story of a dog who changed everything for one woman. For the first time in my life, I didn't need to pretend, I didn't need to be tough: I only needed to be honest. "I have cerebral palsy. I walk funny and my balance is bad. I fall a lot. My hands shake, too. That means I'm not so good at carrying things. And if I drop stuff, sometimes it's hard to just bend down and get it." I waited anxiously for the interviewer's response. She smiled. "It sounds like a service dog could be great for you." So began Leigh Brill's journey toward independence and confidence, all thanks to a trained companion dog named Slugger. The struggling college student and the Labrador with a "a coat like sunshine" and a tail that never stopped wagging became an instant team. Together, they transformed a challenge into a triumph. Together, they inspired and educated everyone they met. Now, Leigh honors her friend with the story of their life, together.

A Taste of Magic, by Tracy Madison

Book Description
A young, divorced bakery owner discovers she?s inherited her gypsy ancestress?s fabulous magical powers, but learns that when seeking true love with her hunky new neighbor, a person has to be careful what she cooks up.

Sweetie, by Kathryn Magendie

Book Description
Friendship. Courage. Hope. For shy, stuttering Melissa, the wild mountain girl named Sweetie is a symbol of pride and strength. But to many in their Appalachian town Sweetie is an outcast, a sinister influence, or worse. This poignant and haunting story takes readers deep inside the bittersweet heart of childhood loyalties.

The Year She Fell, by Alicia Rasley

Book Description
The tragic mystery at the heart of their family has finally surfaced . . . When Ellen Wakefield O'Connor is confronted by a young man armed with a birth certificate that mistakenly names her as his mother, she quickly sorts out the truth: his birth mother listed Ellen on the certificate to cover up her own identity, but also because Ellen is, in a way, related to the child. The birth father is Ellen's troubled husband, Tom. The secrets of the past soon engulf Ellen, Tom, and everyone they love.

Mossy Creek, by Deborah Smith, et al, is a collection of short stories that was free last December.

Book Description
A delightful new collection of original Southern stories set in the charming, fictitious down-home town of Mossy Creek, where there's a friendly face on every corner and a heartfelt story behind every door...

The Crossroads Cafe, by Deborah Smith, was also free last December.

Book Description
A Hollywood actress known for her beauty flees to a secluded mountain cabin in North Carolina after being severely scarred in a car accident. There she finds unexpected love and a new life with a man who lost his family in 9-11.

Warm, funny, poignant, sophisticated, sentimental, fervently romantic and insightfully profound, The Crossroads Cafe is Deborah Smith's, biggest, best and most ambitious novel yet. Transcending the traditional boundaries of both the romance and women's fiction genres, this grand buffet of a story will have readers laughing, crying, and cheering the tenacity of the human spirit. A must-read. To be followed in February 2007 with Smith's next big novel, A Gentle Rain.

Sukkwan Island Free Novella with Bonus Material, by David Vann, is a free pre-order. There is no description, but the cover says it is a novella from Legend of a Suicide ($9.99), where I found this:

The novella, Sukkwan Island, is an increasingly suspenseful story of survival, in which a 13-year-old Roy and his father brave the elements for months in an isolated mountain cabin. Vann uses startling powers of observation to create strong characters, tense scenes and genuine surprises, leading to a ghastly conclusion that's sure to linger.

Cat Calls, by Cynthia Leitich Smith, is another with no description, but I turned up this info at the author's site

'Cat Calls is set in the Tantalize series universe and features entirely new characters. Tiff is claws-down the sassiest point-of-view character I've ever written, and this story radiates "animal" in a fierce, sexy, mind-bending kind of way.'

They've added a few more this morning. Most of these are bestsellers, books you may want, popular fiction. Check it out, because this kind of thing doesn't usually last.

If you like public domain books, there's a wide variety here, free, and the people who do the conversions are very anal about errors, so the books are well-formatted and very nicely done. I don't recall ever seeing a formatting error in any of the books I've downloaded from this forum:  http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=128
