The main character, Drew, only wanted to be left alone to do penance for his sins when he withdrew from the world and went to live in an isolated monastery. When they came for him, six years later, he hadn't forgotten all he had learned in his training to be an assassin.

Probably Morrell's best book. It has the best pace, best characters, and some of the best action in his ouvre. Highly recommended to fans of spy thrillers.

Our hero for this second book of the series (first is Brotherhood of the Rose, and third is League of Night and Fog) is Drew Maclane, once assassin, now hiding from the world in seclusion. He is drawn out and must use his past professional skills to keep alive and find out who is after him.

Very exciting, non stop action. Not a techno-heavy thriller, as our hero must use his own wits and killing skills to negotiate each obstacle.

Morrell is a far better writer than Dan Brown and this is a much better book than the Da Vinci Code, and when I came across the mention on Opus Dei, I had to check the copyright date. He beat Brown by more than 5 years.

David Morrell always comes through for the reader with surprises around every corner.

One of David Morrell's finest. If you're a fan of thrillers, this cannot be missed. Topics are very similar to that of Dan Brown (i.e. Opus Dei) but without the cryptic puzzles. The characters of Fr. Stanislaw and Drew MacLane are realistic and so in-depth that one cannot help but keep reading to know their secrets. Enjoy!
