Excerpt: Cast, cast to the winds, all your doubts, and your fears, Anxiety, trouble, and care ; Shall then flee away, 'mid their own sorry tears, And sink in the pit of despair. -- Faith in Christ, is the hand, to cast the big mountain Of sin, with its sorrows, away; And in your fair bosom, 'twill open the fountain Of joy, that will never decay ! -- A PARODY ON HUMAN NATURE. nature, in all, is the same, From the first, to the last, you will find, Yet, the willing, may alter its frame, By a right, cultivation of mind. As the issues of life, and of death, Do proceed from the heart of the man, Who naturally bends to the earth, In the practise of which, he began. Tho', the spark of true life, yet remains In the human, to raise the divine : By the blood of Immanuel's veins, In his dignifi'd image to shine ! -- You will find, human nature the same, Tho', 'tis held under better control : When the spark, is well fann'd to a flame; 'Tis a bright, intellectual soul ! But the statement first made, I contend, Human nature, is equal in all: Yet, the last, will be first, in the end ; And the first, in oblivion fall! We can never be equal and just, In a natural state upon earth : Not a man, in the world, is to trust, As we all, go astray, from the birth. Full of nought but deception and lies, Not a man, can in truth, say, I'm good; To the high, and the low, this applies, And by grace, it is well understood.
