A book about Goldilocks, giant cucumbers, and a psychopathic Gingerbreadman? The second book in the nursery crimes series, Jack Spratt and the Nursery Crime Division are at it again, solving crimes by unusual characters in Reading. This time the Gingerbreadman has escaped St Cerebellums and is on the loose while Goldilocks has gone missing. Fforde does a great job of creating a realistically unrealistic world were bears talk and aliens speak in binary.

Silly fun. The story unfolds at a brisk pace, though read carefully because otherwise you may skim over a line that will make you chuckle.

My favorite Fforde so far! Detective Jack Spratt and Sergeant Mary Mary search for missing journalist Henrietta "Goldy" Hatchett. The last witnesses to see her alive were the reclusive three bears, and Jack thinks something's odd about their story. How could that porridge be too hot, too cold, AND just right if it was poured at the same time? Was there a fourth bear?
