I've enjoyed all of the Poldark novels so far, and most of them were page-turners for me. However, while important events happened to a number of the characters in this novel, I found it dragged in places. In fact, I scanned over some sections where the author has characters mulling over their probable actions when these "inner thoughts" could have been pages shorter.
