It's December 1941, and from the moment the United States declares war on Japan, eleven-year-old Foster Simmons is caught up in the conflict. First, his older brother gets shipped overseas as a gunner on a B-26, and then his best friend, Jimmy, is exiled to an internment camp. Everything is changing for Foster, except one thing he wishes would change the most--his father's cold, harsh attitude. His mother say's that everyone has to pitch in and work for the peace effort, but it's not until a crisis rocks his family that Foster realizes what he's fighting for.
