Forsaking All Others Author:LaVyrle Spencer Previously published as one of two stories in Jove's A Heart Speaks, Forsaking All Others now gets its own moment in the spotlight. This favorite of LaVyrle's tells the story of an up-and-coming photographer who is once bitten, twice shy in matters of the heart. Until a model with a heart of gold proves he can be trusted with the gift of her love.
A nice, light read, but a little dated. The initial flirting is wonderful to read. It just doesn't maintain that light-hearted, delightful tone throughout the rest of the book.
This is pretty much a standard romance. Talented photographer who has been "done wrong" by a male model she fell for; meets new even handsomer male model; can't get past feeling she's being taken advantage of again. The dance of "I want to, but what if I get hurt, so I won't" leads to frustration for the guy, a long period of heavy petting and his demands that she be honest with him. And, of course, as the title implies they decide to forsake all others and be together forever.
A good read for the beach or vacation (I read it camping) because it's light, fun and predictable. Spencer creates gorgeous women characters, good-looking leading men with tons of integrity and interesting settings. This will never be great literature, but sometimes it's exactly what you want to read.
