Allen Eskens is the one author that I rush to buy every new book he writes. He truly has a rare gift. I was especially excited for this one because Max is returning!!! Yes, Max!!! This latest book, once again, has everything I love about Eskens' books. Yes, it is a thriller that had me wound up and afraid but it also has so much heart that it stirs all the emotions. No one gives more meaning, in my humble opinion, to the words "character driven" than Eskens. I was torn between reading slowly to savor this new book and turning pages to find out where it was going. I have loved every moment. I had some tears in my eyes at the end, part joyful tears but part sad. I am now caught up and back to waiting for a new Eskens book. Please write as fast as you can, Mr. Eskens.

Very very well written!!!

Very good story, well written (I already said that!), the only complaint I have is the galore of repeat but it can be skipped over

The story is a sad one and will have you wanting to hug Pip all the way through

The last 1/4 of the book was kind of overdone, it is mostly descriptions of the 'hunt' through the forest and the conditions etc. so most of it I skipped and just read the pages that moved the story forward
