This excellent book gives a fascinating account of the meticulous work involved in creating a convincing forgery. Forger Hans van Meegeren was in some ways a weaselly con man, but in other aspects an amazing genius. Throw in a few despicable Nazis, an investigator who formerly worked with the Dutch resistance, and a circle of ego-centric art critics, and you have a very readable tale.
