A long short story, or a short novella, this was written over a period of years and one of his last works (published in the year following his death). Two boys counterfeit a note (coupon) setting off a chain reaction of crime that commences with those who have cashed it and proceeding to others who come in contact with them. Thus, evil perpetuates and expands itself through a host of vignettes.
