This is Sin and Layla's story. This picks up from the previous. The Ellis sisters (and their husbands) all appear in this. Miranda and Archer have the most page time. Layla learns her parentage and heritage. Various plot-lines are wrapped up in a satisfactorily way. I was happy to read Sin's story and how he got involved with Mab.
A satisfying series.
A satisfying series.
This was a spectacular conclusion to the Darkest London series. This book tells the story of Sin and Layla; I have been waiting to hear Sin's story for sooooo long. It was a wonderful story and Layla is the perfect match for Sin. There is wonderful tension throughout and the characters have excellent chemistry together. There are some deliciously lush sex scenes as well; they are just beautifully written.
Even more impressive than the romance between Sin and Layla was the way Callihan brought all the story elements from the previous six books together in this book. The events of the previous books all become clear and we find out how all the activities with demons, fae, angels, and other paranormals relate to each other. It was masterfully done and made this book a joy to read.
This book was a bit different than previous books in that it not only focuses on Sin and Layla but also focuses on Lena and Augustus. It was wonderful to finally learn the whole backstory between Lena and Augustus; very intriguing and very satisfying. Additionally all the Everhart's are back in the story and there is some focus on Archer (who has been ill) and Melinda as well.
The book wrapped in a way that was beautiful and hopeful. Everyone was left in an excellent spot. The book was impossible but to put down and completely engrossing and engaging.
Overall this was a spectacular way to wrap up this series. Thank you Callihan for giving your readers (and characters) all the happiness they could ever want and more! I loved the characters, I loved the way this book ties into the first seven, and I loved the backstory on the Damnations and Judgements. This whole series is recommended to those who enjoy historical paranormal reads with a large dash of romance.

Perfect ending to a wonderful series. We got to catch up on Miranda and her Archer (he will have some chapters on his p.o.v.) but there is hard and deadly times for these two, Daisy and her pest Ian, Poppy and her love Winston- there really is nothing about how their son is,and Jack and his Mary. Only Holly, Eliza and Adam only be mentioned a couple of times. Augustus and Lena will be popping up in their p.o.v. also. Lena will show a side that hasn't be shown before and when she reunites with her Daughter Layla she will show the even more but to see the love she has for the two most important to her is a surprise, she'll even apologize to people she has wronged. But the one responsible for everything is shocking and it steams even before Miranda's first story.
Definitely another 5 star win for Kristen Callihan!
I've been reading this series since book 1 came out and it's one of my favs, one of the few that I read immediately upon release. It has paranormal romance and historical fiction mixed in with a dash of steampunk, three of my favorite genres. Callihan as usual has intermingled these genres in yet another wonderful tale. While we've met Sin before, Layla is a new and unique creature called a "Damnation". As she knows nothing of this paranormal London, she is surprisingly adaptable to what's going on in her life. I loved the romance between Sin and Layla, but felt a sense of sadness as this series comes to an end. I loved the brief interactions with many of the couples we've met in the past and am really going to miss this wonderful world. Make sure you read this series in order so that you get the whole picture. I almost wish I hadn't read them all so I'd have this whole series to binge read.
