This book is comprised of a series of short stories. My favorites are Casino, Quiet Haven and Funny Boy. Grishams's storytelling is excellent..reminding me why I initially loved his books. Grishan developed his characters quickly yet fully so their actions were understandable. Funny boy is a moving story that captured the uneasiness of the time when people didn't know very much about AIDS, and how they treated people with AIDS. In a normal situation, Emporia and Adrian would not have become friends, and especially would not develop reciprocal feelings of compassion, devotion and loyalty. Yet they did with Emporia letting him live his last days with dignity, something his family would not give him.

It was an easy read, but I was a little disappointed in the content. The storylines were pretty shallow.

the last story is by far the best. maybe if i had read it first i would have liked the others better if that makes sense. the first ones had me ready to quit reading the book. they wernt a typical grisham book to me.

6 or 7 excellent short stories. A couple really stand out.

A handful of stories featuring an ecclectic collection of characters from a rural southern county. Since these are short stories you shouldn't expect real in-depth story-lines. However, if you want a peek into small-town, backwoods America this is a great read. You will find both humor and pathos and realistic characters. I am not generally a big Grisham fan, but I would recommend this book.
