A violent & interesting story centering around the back story of Joe Pickett's pal Nate Romanowski. I won't give away the plot except to note that for fans of this series this is not an animal hunt so some may not wish to endure the violent human confrontations contained in this tale.

Really enjoy this book as it is my favorite author and he did well again. Had bad guys hidden in plain sight and I did not see it till the end.

Another great one in the Joe Pickett series.
Even though this one is more about Nate and gives more of his background, the story revolves around him and gives more information into his falconry.
This story is not any more violent than a murder mystery would be and is written very well to keep you going until the end, without giving it away, you won't find out the context of the story surrounding Nate until closer to the end but getting there will keep you reading and you won't be skipping any pages.
Another thing is the fact that there is very very little foul language used, which is a plus for this book.

Each book is better than the previous one. This book explains why Nate lives off the grid as he stays one step ahead of his nemesis from his past. Couldn't put it down.
Excellent book. Wonderful writer
I have read all of the Joe Pickett books prior to this one and IMO, this one is the best so far. This is no. 12 in the series and it focuses on Nate Romanowski, the rogue agent who has been hiding from the FBI for most of the series. Nate is one of my favorite characters in the books and is reminiscent of another of my favorites, Jack Reacher. In this one, Nate is on the run from his former leader in the black ops group that he was involved with during the first war in Iraq. Nate has been hiding from an incident that occurred prior to 9/11 that could have possibly changed what happened on that fateful day. His former superior is out to silence him. This was one of the most violent in the series and was full of page-turning action. In addition, there were some unexpected twists and characters who were not as they seemed. Overall, very high recommendation!
I have been reading Joe Pickett book series in order, and I have to say I love them all, but so far this one was my favorite. In this one we get a good dose of our main character Joe Pickett, but also an equal dose of Nate Romanowski, so it should be an equal billing. This is full throttle and petal to the metal, with a double dose of adrenaline! I really couldn't put the book down, as both Joe and Nate are dealing with Nate's former trainer and mentor gone to the dark side, with a new force of trainees! The characters come to life as in most of C.J. Box's books, and you can also almost feel the cold environment where it takes place! Bring's back memories of places I have traveled out west such as Jackson Hole, Pikes Peak, and the Tetons. A great ride and I can't wait to purchase a ticket for the next ride coming up!

Nate Romanowski has been a supporting character in C.J. Box's Joe Pickett series since almost its beginning. It's not been a secret that he has a shadowy past, involving certain missions and acts that would cause those in polite company to blanch IF those things could be discussed at all.
This book finally reveals the things that Romanowski has kept hidden since his arrival in Wyoming. His past has caught up with him, and is gunning for him and those pursuing him consider Nate's friends to possible sources of information disposable sources of information and nothing more than potential collateral damage to the cause.
Rather than risk spoilers, let us just state that fans of Joe Pickett and of author C.J. Box will not want to miss this book.
