This book deserves a full five stars; maybe more if that were possible. The description offered will tell you all about the basic plot. What you have to read to believe is how superbly King envelopes you in this character and situation. Haunting and beautifully accurate stream of consciousness from Rae (the protagonist) as she faces her damaged mind and emotions, her fearful but head-on wrestling with her fears and demons, her devotion to the people in her life that she loves and has loved, as well as her remorse about her frailties and weaknesses, they all come together in a book I'll probably never forget. It is so much more than a "mystery" and yet it is that, too.

In my opinion, Laurie King proved herself a true writing master in this one. I'm having a hard time reposting it, but I'm sure I will. It is too precious not to share.

I liked this book. It is very well written with a deep insight into the nightmare this woman goes thru in trying to discover what is real and what is really going on in her life. I will be looking for more books by this author.

This book is excellent. I am in awe of an author who can weave disparate things together and then put in an unexpected 'twist' to spice up the action. I only wish I could do the same. If you can get the book, read it. Sparked me to read another Laurie King book. She is a prolific writer.

A middle aged woman struggles to regain her mental health after a series of losses. She moves to a lonely Puget Sound island to rebuild her dead uncle's house, and reclaims her identity. Very well written, unusually insightful.

This was an ok book. Alot of it seemed somewhat implausible to me, but I think that's more about what I feel like reading right now then the actual book.

Another engaging book by Laurie R. King. Perhaps you do not have issues with depression or have experienced a severe loss but I was totally absorbed into the heart and spirit of the main character.

Loved it!

Thank you Laurie R. King

I enjoyed reading a mystery set in the San Juan Islands, not far from here. Tho some of her characters were interesting I felt it was lacking something. Certainly not scary.
