Life has become terribly complicated for Denny since her daddy brought home his young roping partner, Tyler Oneota. While Denny is sorting out her romantic feelings about Ty, her reckless daddy has a crippling accident and her long absent mother insists on rejoining the family to care for him, driving Gramma B. from her place as head of the household. Denny is trying to ease the family's financial straits by training a star roping horse for a wealthy buyer. The sale depends on the tricky flying lead change, which is as hard to master as the sudden flying changes in Denny's own life.
