You bet its a flying birthday cake - would Louis Sachar have it any other way? The same off-beat humor and understanding of children in this book as in all of Sachar's books. Capable 1st grade readers, 2nd and 3rd grades (and everybody else) will enjoy this book - which by the way has some very good social lessons.
Marvin can't sleep, and sees something zoom across the nite sky in a bright flash. Is it a flying birthday cake? Or something else?
