"Fly Away" connects to "Firefly Lane" as it returns to the characters from that novel but it also stands alone as a wonderful read.
FLY AWAY is the story of three women in the before and after Kate's death. The story is largely about Tully, Tully's mother Dorothy, and Kate's daughter, Marah. Each is lost. The story is grounded in friendship, hope for the future, enduring love and the reaffirmation of forgiveness. It's great. Another heartwarming story by Kristin Hannah.

I recently read Firefly Lane, and I was impressed, but felt a little behind the times. I had seen tons of rave reviews about it, but just hadnt ever made the time for it myself. I feel a little ahead of the curve with Fly Away, being lucky enough to have received an advanced copy of it, and I will tell you that I think fans of the first book will be happy with this follow up.

Fly Away picks up about four years after the end of Firefly Lane, and covers the time in between through sort of flash backs told mostly from the perspectives of Tully, Marah, and Cloud/Dorothy. We get to see what has happened to Kates friends and family in the aftermath of her death in the first book, with not entirely good results. Losing someone you love deeply can have drastic consequences, and this story really takes you down a couple of bad paths that show you just how bad people can get when consumed by grief...

This is the followup book to Firefly Lane about Kate and Tully.

Kate's daughter, Marah, and Tully are the main characters in this one, but there are some really interesting background stories about Cloud(Dorothy), Tully's mother, and even Tully's grandmother that bring this book together. It helps us learn to not judge people without knowing their story.

Most of Kristin Hannah's books are very sad, but incredibly good stories, and this one is no exception.

I didn't enjoy it quite as well as the first as Kate was my favorite character in this series.

This review contains a FIREFLY LANE (book) spoiler.

A continuation of the book called Firefly Lane, and how the characters from that story are dealing with the death of Kate, one of the main characters from that story. Definitely read Firefly Lane first.

Most of the story is told by the main characters (Tully, Marah, Johnny, Dorothy/Cloud), in flashback scenes from their intersecting lives. Although heartfelt and well written from a content perspective, this story gets a little confusing, jumping from multiple points in the past, to the present and back again. Each time you start a new chapter, it takes a paragraph or two to figure out what time period it's talking about. Sometimes you just wish it would flow along chronologically.

I purchased fly away from the Target clearance section and started reading it only to realize that it was the second book in a series. I put the book down and ordered firefly lane. I just finished reading both books back to back.

This story picks up right where the last story leaves off. You learn what happens to friendship and family when tragedy strikes and loved ones are left behind.

I was more hooked on this book than firefly lane. I always wonder after a book has finished what happens next. This book answers this question.

1. Firefly lane
2. Fly away

This was 400 pages of so-so for me. I really never liked Tully and just can't get interested in 50 y/o women who behave like they're 19. Ugh.

I thought this was a wonderful follow up to Firefly Lane and by the end of the story, I was in tears! Great book!

Surprisingly good for a sequel that I dont think the author originally planned to write. I loved the first book and thoroughly enjoyed this follow up. I would highly recommend to fans of Firefly Lane.

A good story, but pretty depressing. I was anxious for it to end before it did.
