Christopher Moore's imagination is unbelievable. This is the third book of his that I've read and I'm still amazed at his creativity. He definitely thinks outside the box - actually I'm not even sure he's ever seen the box. I also love the fact that he's a little demented, he always makes me laugh. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of his books.

This was certainly interesting! When I started out reading this, I thought it was going to be a humorous satire similar to Carl Hiaasen's novels. In fact, I had just finished Hiaasen's "Native Tongue" a few weeks ago (highly recommend). It started out that way with the story of Nate Quinn and his crew studying the songs of humpback whales with a lot of humor thrown in. Some of it was laugh out loud funny such as the story of the women researchers being assaulted by a pair of whale "willies". But then the story went to bizarro land! I must say that Moore has a heck of an imagination and strayed way outside the box with this one. I don't want to spoil this for other readers so I won't say too much about what happened, but you do find out the fate of Amelia Earhart! Overall, a moderate recommendation. I will look out for Moore's other works to see how they compare.

I want to say this wasn't the best Moore book I've read, but I've only read like 4... but besides that, the man is obviously insane. Where does he come up with this stuff? Dude... this was one screwed up book! Having said that, it did make me nostalgic for Hawaii, where I lived for several years.

This was a very funny and sometimes poignant book about whales, friendship, loyalty and discovering wonder in unexpected places. I liked the characters Nate, Amy, Kona, Clay and the Old Broad.

This may well be one of the oddest books I've ever read... and it's not the first I've read by Chris Moore so that's really saying something. He truely has a way of taking something of interest (why do winged whales sing anyway???) and going somewhere with it you'd never imagine ending up.
I've absoluetely laughed my butt off while reading the books of his I've read so far and this one was no exception.

This book is definitely one of Christopher Moore's better ones. I enjoyed it immensely. It's great to find books that aren't predictable at all. They follow their own logic. Very nice!

Very very good. Very funny. Well done. Somewhat uneven, but the good parts are really, really good.

Not my fave Moore vehicle...But still worth a read...It's like taking a trip to Sea World hopped up on a full case of Red Bull's, an entire bottle of No Doze, and not a wink of sleep in 2 weeks...Only exception is there are no crying, cotton candy covered kids...Anywho, I am a Christopher Moore stalker...So I don't know what I'm talking about anyway...I'm THIS close to catching him in my highly elaborate butterfly net...He's a slippery b****rd...

I like Moore's style - somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but there is method to his madness.

This was my first Christopher Moore novel. I found myself chuckling under the covers at some of the absurd scenes, witty exchanges between the characters, and the hilarity of the entire books premise. Quite enjoyable!!

This book starts out "normal" in the real world, then takes a left turn into the world of the weird and strange. I laughed and scratched my head and couldn't put it down. By the end, Moore had me thinking, "maybe this could exist..."
What a wonderful imagination Christopher Moore has--though I wonder what kind of upbringing he had--he must have had very understanding parents lol! This book is set in Hawaii on the Island of Lahania. My family went to Maui a few years ago and the description of the channel in between the two islands brings back memories of my dad and I snorkeling out there by the harbor. This is one of the most creative books I have read in a long time--this is not my normal genre (which is historical fiction). I'm reading it for a book club and am pleasantly surprised. Will definately look forward to more Moore. =)
Very funny, but I would suggest you start with one of his other books (Bloodsucking Fiends or Lamb) before tackling this one.
Christopher Moore has a rich fantasy life. I enjoyed the story but I like anything that is not predictable. It is funny, it has mystery, and it is a quick read. Although I like the writing, the surprise ending was just a little too over the top for me.

H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!! And so are all of Christopher Moore's books. He's a comedic genious and one heck of a story teller. So worth a read if you love books that make you laugh.

Another good one by this author. He's as out there as Stephen King, but at the opposite end of the spectrum!
another riot by Mr Moore. love the deeper context of the final twist. this guy's hysterical and a fine writer.
It's not Lamb, but it's a good story.
Another fun read by Christopher Moore.

If you have yet to be introduced to Christopher Moore, let me warn you about reading this book in designated quiet areas. Moore's writings have a tendency to tickle all the funny bones in your body until you explode with laughter.

PLEASE NOTE: This book was received without its dust jacket. It is in otherwise good condition and does not affect the hilarity whatsoever. ;0)
