The author captures a sense of place well. I felt sympathetic toward and interested in the characters. While the book focuses on global warming, and Kingsolver obviously wants to get her message across, it was incorporated into the storyline so well that I did not feel like she was lecturing me. The book is a page-turner and the main character has wonderful voice.

Liked this a lot for the message about our world and the changes taking place because of climate change. The characters are well developed and you care about what happens to them but the over riding message is about what we have done and are doing to this world. I do recommend it.

I would say this is one of Barbara Kingsolver's best novels. The title of the novel works on several levels within the story, and brings to life the reality of many girls across the country who are victims of circumstance.

It is a very compelling story that pulls the reader in. Highly recommended.

I love Barbara Kingsolver and have read just about everything she has written (not some of the non fiction ones). I really did not like The Lacuna, and this one left me wanting more. I appreciate her "green" view for the earth, but wanted more story about the people and less about the butterflies. I did learn a lot, however, about the monarch butterflies.
