This was a typical Laymon horror novel with lots of blood, sex, and gore. I have read several Laymon novels and I would say this one probably ranks in the top 5 or so that I have read (I enjoyed "The Stake" probably the most). This book had the requisite amount of chills (not for the squeamish!). The story reminded me a lot of the super sci-fi movie from the 80's --The Hidden. Both stories were about an entity that invaded humans and affected their minds to commit acts of violence. In fact, "The Hidden" was released in 1987 and "Flesh" was copyrighted in 1988. Hmmm - I wonder if Laymon stole some ideas from the movie? Anyway, I recommend both the movie (The Hidden) and Flesh!

Great book, as always Laymon comes through with and enthralling story!
Wow, what a good premise for a super scary, gory, wild ride of a book. Too bad it was none of that. This would have been better off as a short story in an anthology. You would think a creature of this kind would go crazy in this town and cause all kinds of havoc but no it does not. You would think the body count would be large, it was not. Even Laymon's staple writing style of copious sex was not on display in this novel. There was sexual tension but never the act. Very disappointing so I will gladly pass it on!
I have read better books from this author. It is good but could have been better ! I did like it but not a must have read.
