An interesting Darkover story. This is the third book in a trilogy that covers the fallout resulting from the Deslucido Gift and the formation of the Compact. Sometimes, the narratives of Eduin Deslucido and Danilys Ridenow felt forced, but I suppose that is part and parcel of writing about a sympathetic villain and a reluctant heroine. The ending is solid, and it helps make sense of Darkover's Compact against laran weaponry.
