A most loving tribute to a mother who saw her children through the most unimaginable horrors of being interned in a Japanese concentration camp on the island of Java during WWII. I was so glad to have found this book which is a true testament of mother love!

After watching Ken Burns' PBS documentary about World War II, I wanted to learn more of civilian families who were imprisoned in the Pacific by the Japanese during the war. This book is a memoir of a woman who survived imprisonment on Java. To be honest, I was surprised when I read it. It is not a grueling account of war atrocities, but rather a very powerful story and I found it to be uplifting and fascinating.
