If you have never been to NYC you will love the visiual trip this book takes you on. Of course, the story is inspirational, too, for anyone raising a preteen daughter and all the joy and trials that can bring. These two ideas are secondary to the love story, though and that alone is worth the read !

i really enjoyed this book. it has good character development and holds your interes. Since I teach, I enjoy "escape" reading, but don't like the predictable romance type. This is an entertaining read.

A light romance about a divorced woman Libby, who lives in an old but lovely apartment in NY City with her 13 year old daughter Reva. Libby is administrator of admissions at a posh upper-class school, and as such has a certain air of pseudo snobbishness. Ned Donovan, father of ten year old Eric, is hoping against hope to enroll his son in said school, in spite of the fact that he cannot possibly afford it. Ned is an architectural contractor, in other words, a "fixer upper." Ned and Libby meet, have a steamy hot romance, etc, etc. And the rest is history. A pretty good beach read, and fairly entertaining if you skip a lot of the juvenile stuff. I gave it a three and a half.

Libby Kimmelman hasn't really let someone get close since her husband left her and their young daughter. Widower Ned Donovan has moved to New York in search of a new beginning. Their paths cross when Ned's son, Eric, applies to the prestigious private school at which Libby is the admissions director. Ned, an architect, offers to strip Libby's fireplace, and soon he is chipping away at Libby's cool exterior as well as the layers of enamel that coat the marble mantle. This novel's strength lies in its realistic characters. Arnold doesn't ignore the difficulties of dating as a single parent; Libby and Ned put their children first, even when it threatens their own relationship. The kids are smart and funny without being obnoxiously precocious, and Libby's ex-sister-in-law, Vivienne, colorful and meddling, provides comic relief.

I enjoyed this book immensely. Two unlikely people in NYC find love, with some troubles along the way. Good read.
