From the vantage point of traveling cross country during the days surrounding 9/11, Joan Didion chronicles the shift in perspective from an attempt to understanding why the attacks took place to a view of condemnation and finger-pointing resulting in a stance of American isolation from the rest of the world. Excellent, insightful writing.
