This book has taken months to review because I've been so busy trying the recipes for my family. The authors say they want "fantastic flavor, comfort one day and bursts of world spice the next. We want it healthful, quick, and inexpensive." That is a mouthful, and I think they do what they say. How do I know?
There are photos, servings, prep time, cook time, and price/serving (as of the time printed). Please take a look at their website -- https://thefivedollarfoodie.com/. They use healthy foods and know "the clean fifteen and the dirty dozen" veggies and fruits. Then, they cook, combining organic and conventional ingredients.
They talk about everything, including how to shop and plan several meals around a single ingredient. Their recipes are great for daily cooks and occasional chefs. One example: Mac and cheese - they tell the trick for keeping pasta from absorbing all the sauce (clever).
The authors constantly offer substitutions and additional ideas for adding flavor to their dishes. Many recipes are vegetarian (just adding meat for the non-vegetarians)âthis book for excellent for experienced cooks and those just getting started. They also show how to turn dishes into gluten-free ones.
