Many of you will remember that Jeremy Marsh and Lexie Darnell fell in love in "True Believer." This was a totally unexpected happening in Marsh's life. He's a divorced man in his mid thirties, a columnist, used to life in the big city. But he has moved to the small rural town of Boone Creek, N.C. to start a new life and marry Lexie, a librarian, who is expecting their child.

Fatherhood, home owner, small town dweller - all at once it's a bit much for Marsh to accommodate. To top it off he develops a bad case of writer's block, and begins to receive email saying Lexie isn't all she pretends to be.

Will the two be able to overcome these obstacles for the sake of love? It's a teary trail to the answer, but Sparks fans will relish the trip.

I love Nicholas Sparks and I must say that this is one of his finest. I laughed, cried and was completely absorbed in the story. Amazing writer, who consistently produces page turners and characters that are so realistic you feel their story in your soul.

A really sweet love story, very realistic to real life. I love how the author builds his characters into these real people. Noone is perfect. The ending is terribly sad, even as Nicholas Sparks goes. I really didn't see it coming.

Nicholas Sparks is so predictable. Most of his stories are about love and they have some tragedy wrapped up in the plot. I love most of them because they are set in North Carolina, my home. I chose this one because I was in the mood for a gushy love story that would make me cry. This one was different.

Yes, it was about love. There really wasn't any great tragedy. And I really did not like it.

Basically Jeremy starts to doubt his relationship because of rumors and some drama. It was all very boring and silly to me. I did not enjoy it at all and I am surprised I even finished it.

I give it 2 out of 5 stars, simply because of the love aspect to the story and it being set in NC.

I love all of Nicholas Sparks books. His writing is so full of emotion and you get drawn right into his stories. This book is a sequel to true believer so make sure you read that book first. This is definitely a tear jerker and you will want to have an entire box of tissues nearby!

This book seemed to be written like a diary; most of it was set-up for the final chapters and the epilogue. Many events in the book were stand-alone events and didn't relate to anything else--almost like page fillers. I had to make myself finish reading this book.

I didn't care for this one as much as I have all other Sparks' books - don't want to give anything away so I won't comment more about the story line. Maybe the expectation for sequels is just too high.

This is a typical Nicholas Sparks book - a well-written, good love story. I moved to North Carolina 8 years ago and especially enjoyed the book's setting in Boone. The main characters were introduced in an earlier Sparks book which I have not read. That did not take away from enjoyment of At First Sight.

This is the continuation of the love story of small-town librarian Lexie Darnell and big-city science writer, the skeptical Jeremy Marsh. In the course of a whirlwind six weeks, Jeremy Marsh has done the impossible: he's found someone he wants to spend the rest of his life with, and he is going to be a father. All her life Lexie has wanted to raise a family in her hometown, the dying Boone Creek, North Carolina, and Jeremy is willing to sacrifice New York for her.

But as the weeks pass, Jeremy loses his writing touch, the money spent on buying and renovating their house seems more than they can spare, and Jeremy can't help but feel like Lexie is keeping things from him. His good friend Alvin keeps warning him that he's gone into this too fast, he barely even knows Lexie, he shouldn't throw his life away for her.

But doubtful friends are the least of their worries, it turns out. As their child's expected date of birth nears, complications arrive which could threaten their small family's happiness forever. Tragedy, acceptance, and joy combine in this sweet tearjerker.

I wasn't a huge fan of TRUE BELIEVER, the prequel, and AT FIRST SIGHT didn't leave a much better impression on me either, except for the ending.

emeraldfire avatar reviewed At First Sight on
There are several things Jeremy Marsh was absolutely sure that he would never do: he'd never leave New York City; never give his heart away again after barely surviving one failed marriage; and never become a parent. Well, Jeremy is now living in the tiny town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, engaged to the love of his life, Lexie Darnell, and anticipating the start of their family. Jeremy Marsh's life had certainly taken quite an unexpected turn.

However, just as his life seems to be settling into a blissful pattern, a mysterious and disturbing email sends him into a tailspin. It also sets into motion a chain of events that will irrevocably change the course of this young couple's relationship. It raises several questions in Jeremy's mind: just how well do we really know the ones we love? How do we handle the inevitable doubts and fears concerning impending parenthood, and the various stumbling blocks that are sometimes placed in our way?

Continuing the story of Jeremy Marsh and Lexie Darnell - the young couple introduced in Nicholas Sparks' bestselling True Believer - At First Sight manages to capture all the heartbreak, tension, romance and surprises of couples who are newly married. This is an astonishing tale about the love between a man and a woman and between a parent and a child, At First Sight is about endings that bring new beginnings . . .tragedies that lead to unexpected joy. . . and, most of all, the magic of everlasting love.

This is second book by Nicholas Sparks that I've read, and I haven't actually read True Believer. In my opinion, though, I didn't really need to - this worked very well for me as a standalone story. I really enjoyed this book; granted that the story wasn't necessarily about anything earth-shattering; but it was a poignant and heart-warming story nevertheless. This author certainly knows how to develop an unexpected story; the plot was slightly mysterious and was an engagingly quick read for me. I give At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks an A+!

This book was pretty good, some parts were slow and I thought that At First Sight and True Believer could have been combined into one. The ending was terribly sad and it actually made me cry..(I have only been moved to tears by one other book and that was P.S. I Love You.) I will keep this book but may swap my copy of True Believer, I really don't think you would be missing anything by skipping that one and only reading At First Sight. My favorites by Nicholas Sparks are still Message in a Bottle and The Guardian.

****POSSIBLE SPOILERS*****

I loved True Believer and wast really excited to continue on the journey of Jeremy and Lexie's love.

First off I did have a gap of a couple of months of reading True Believer to At First Sight. I read both of them within 48 hours, however I didn't feel the same passion that there was in True Believer. This one leaves you hanging, almost like a soap opera except the characters never sell you on the story.

it's too episodic with a bunch of he said/she said. So when you finally get through all of the drama you just want things to end peacefully.

Overall not his best and it may have even damaged True Believer for me as well.

Just go into reading this book with an open mind but don't expect greatness.

Another wonderful story by Nicholas Sparks. This one is a sequal to A True Believer (I think) - following Lexie and Jeremy's love story through their courtship, into marriage and beyond. Nicely told, from Jeremy's point of view, the characters really are beautifully developed and the story engaging.

Like all Nicholas Sparks books, At First Sight, was a beautiful love story from the south with wonderful ghost and second sence.

Follow up to True Believer, this book is an easy read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now married, Jeremy and Lexie are expecting a daughter. Jeremy is struggling with writer's block, a new home, a move from NYC to a small town in the middle of no where and the impending birth. I enjoyed the exploration of emotions in the different scenarios. Loss, love and hope are major themes throughout.

There are a few thngs Jeremy Marsh was sure He'd never do; He'd never leave New York city; Never give his heart away after barely surviving one failed marriage; and never become a parent.

Now Jeremy is living in the tiny town of Boone Creek, NC and engaged to Lexie Darnell, the love of his life, and anticipating the start of his family. But just as everythink seems to be settling into a blissful pattern, a mysterious e-mail sets off a chain of events that will test the strength of their commitment.
AT FIRST SIGHT explores the love between a man and a woman and between a parent and a child and reveals an extraordinary truth: theat the emotion that can break your heart is sometimes the very one that heals it.

cholas Sparks brings back two characters from his beloved bestseller, True Believer, in this continuing saga of extraordinary love.
There are few things Jeremy Marsh was sure he'd never do: he'd never leave New York City; never give his heart away again after barely surviving one failed marriage; and most of all, never become a parent. Now, Jeremy is living in the tiny town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, married to Lexie Darnell, the love of his life, and anticipating the birth of their daughter. But just as his life seems to be settling into a blissful pattern, an unsettling and mysterious message re-opens old wounds and sets off a chain of events that will forever change the course of this young couple's marriage.

I have not read the book.
