Kirk and the Enterprise crew suddenly find themselves stranded in an alternate time line in which humans never existed and earth is ruled by dinosaurs. Forced to go through the Guardian of Forever they try to restore the timeline. The story follows the right balance and tone of the original series that fans will find comforting/familiar although the action is more epic and fast paced than one would expect, but still a good dose of cerebral theory ( as provided by Spock). No new ground is really broken, no new revelations on old characters, but a really enjoyable read of a new adventure with old friends.

Kind of far-fetched, but a good book nonetheless. A group of evolved dinosaurs use the Guardian of Forever to travel back into Earth's past and make sure that the dinosaurs rule the planet instead of man.
An odd concept, but a good read.

In this double-length Star Trek novel, the authors have chosen to go wide rather than deep, and there are many sections where it simply feels padded. The gist of the adventure is a hostile force using the Guardian of Forever to change history while Kirk & Co attempt to put it right again. This time, the trip goes all the way back to the asteroid impact that obliterated the dinosaurs and changed the ecohistory of Earth forever.
Kirk is stranded in an alternate timeline as the fate of human existence hangs in the balance.....
Time travel sci-fi at its best!
