I love this book because it tells about Laura and Manly's first few years of marriage. The manuscript was not prepared for publication by Laura, because it was not found until after her death. Therefore, the book is not as well-written or detailed as the previous Little House books. However, if you enjoy Laura's other books, this book will be of interest. I found out things about Laura's life that I never knew until I read this book.

This book is commonly rejected by LHOP series fans, but I really enjoyed it. Yes, it was a little different than the others in the series, but not all that different. I can't imagine reading all of the other books, and not this one!

Cover doesn't have the edging around it.
Laura and Manly Wilder begin married life on their small prairie homestead with high hopes. The beautiful prairie world seems like a paradise; there are wildflowers in spring, wild geese in autumn, pony rides, and warm times together. But each year brings unforeseen disasters as well--storms destroy the crops; there is sickness, fire, and always unpaid debts. The first four years often prove heartbreaking for the Wilders. But they have each other, and their little daughter Rose, and a fierce determination to succeed.

What a depressing story. Of course it lacked a lot of detail than what her other books are because it was taken from a few journals found after her death (she was working on it for another book). Sad that we couldn't learn even more. It really is admirable to see how hard people worked in that time and how lazy we've become. Even after a stroke, Almanzo didn't give up! how amazing.

I have read the whole Little House series, and loved every moment. I kinda of hate getting ride of the books, but I know my boys wont read them. So instead of letting them waste, I'm passing them on. The books are different from the tv series. As much as I love the Tv series, the books are much better. This series is a classic and should be read by every child, well at least every girl...lol.
