News producer Melissa McGuire is used to taking orders and playing nice. She caters to her co-workers and is mild mannered. For the people who know and love her, like her grandmother, Nelly, they are sick of her not taking charge of her life and for letting others walk all over her.
The firefighters in San Gabriel, California are known as much for their bravery as they are for the good looks and perpetual bachelor status. Cashing in on their good looks and popularity they auction themselves off to raise money for the Widows and Orphans Fund. Nelly is determined to purchase a hotty for her granddaughter. Captain Harry Brody and Melissa arent expecting each other, but cant deny the heat between them.
I really liked this story. I sort of expected it to be a little more mindless and fluffy than it turned out to be. It has some surprising depth and emotion. Melissa is definitely the main character and you get to see how she is a bit of a chameleon when it comes to relationships with the people in her life. Both she and Harry have pasts that creep into the present and rock the boat on the way to happily ever after. It makes for a gripping tale that stars a lot of interesting characters.
There is delicious and much appreciated erotic little side story and it definitely added some spice. Overall I was just really pleasantly surprised with this story. I thought I would like it, but I ended up enjoying it so much more. I laughed, I criedThis looks to be a series and I will definitely be reading the next one.
