The ending was left a little too open for me, but this was a captivating story of a young girl in her search for a mother that abandoned her. The growth, development and change in parenting style of the grandmother was also very enjoyable aspect of the book.

I've always liked Reynold's writing style, her books deliver everytime. You meet some pretty interesting characters in the story, who are all dealing with their own conflicts, but they are all connected. Your heart will go out to Tessa Lee!

Eight-year-old Tessa Lee and her little brother were abandoned in a campground by their hapless mother, dependent on her latest boyfriend, and on her next fix. Seven years later, and still living with the grandmother who took them in to her mobile home, Tessa Lee hears a rumor of her mother's whereabouts and sets out to find her. Not surprisingly, little has changed for the mother and she is not anxious to be 'found.' Despite the unflinching looks at the tragedies that have dogged all this family's lives, this manages to be a hopeful book, with a new friend and new wisdom for Tessa Lee, and the hope, at the end, for possible reconciliations.

I enjoyed this book especially the character development of the grandmother. Great themes of loss, becoming, and redemption!

I love Sheri Reynolds and this is the best book she has written in my opinion. Wonderful characters and plot. Two young children abandoned by their mother and raised by their Grandparents. As a teenager the daughter sets out to find her mother and grows up along the way. Great read that you can't put down until your finished.
