Very good book. This is the second book in the Heartless series and first I read. Don't need to read in order to know what's going on. First and third books are "Heartless" & "Fanning the Flame".

Likeable heroine and hero, in a story that is exciting and with some darker aspects that deepen the plot beyond the usual superficial fare.

But she never thought a man like Clayton Harcourt would pursue her. As the bastard son of a wealthy duke, Clay was no stranger to scandal. Taking a wife was not his plan, but Kitt's wild spirit drew him like a flame in the darkness, and the gossip swirling around her awakened a deire to tame and protect her. When Clay lays a trap for marriage, Kitt can't help but surrender to the passion he stirs within her. But will a secret from her past keep her from trusting her heart to the magnificent rogue who arounses her most burning disires?

When I was interested in Regency-era England stories, I enjoyed Kat Martins' feisty women. A quick read, with predicable happy ending.

This is a true story of love. The Fire Inside perfectly depicts what a person goes through and what they feel when they are in love, and when their love might not be requited. Kat Martin writes accurate descriptions of this, and such realistic dialogue and situations.

I could not put this down. It moved slow at first, and I was not sure if I was going to like it. But soon enough it got so sensual and addictive. Martin's stories are never uninteresting or boring. There's always excitement, drama, and passion.
