entertaining for those who like novels about Police Procedurals and mysteries
Not a bad read!
While best known for his military series such as "Brotherhood of War", "The Corps" and others this series is my personal favorite from Griffin. The action is real and the characters wonderful.

Fast paced and non-stopped suspense; great cop adventures!

The first case, a fatal shooting at a fast-food restaurant seems simple, but rapidly becomes complicated. The second, a rape that tumbled into murder, begins complicated and only gets more so as it becomes apparent that the crime may be part of a disturbing and escalating pattern. In the third, Payne becomes involved with a local figure who long ago fled the ocuntry, leaving behind the mummified body of his girlfriend in a trunk.
Weaving in and around this already hectic schedule are the visit to Philadelphia of the self-absorbed star of a series of improbable police movies, who wants Payne to show him 'the real stuff', and the appearance in Payne's life of two very different women. Moves along rapidly. Hard to put down.
W E B remains one of the premier police procedural writers - and writers still alive. Mostly we guys want to liive vicariously through his charecters and wish we were them. We ain't, and we never will be, but then again, neither are his charecters THAT believable. But who cares, we like to read them anyway.
I loved this series, and I really didn't want it to end.
