This book is a great book for anyone who loves someone. Nine years after my dad's death this book told me I heard what I heard and that I understood what he was saying to me. From the minute he was diagnosed he fought. When it was time to quit his doctor couldn't tell him, it was me who told him it was over and we were going home. From the time we got there he was different. He said things that were out of place, saw people who we didn't but never acted like he was lost, this book helped me realize what I thought was going on was, that he was giving me the final gifts they talk about in this book. The book itself talks about the time right before they die, and how they can still give you what you need and sometimes ask you to give them things. The authors tell you how to listen and how to ask about what you hear and what to say to them. There are touching stories of nurses who have seen it time and time again and quite truthfully this many years later it made me feel better knowing I was listening and hearing the right things, that I was interpreting what he was telling and asking me. It has given me a little comfort. If you are losing someone or know someone who is this book can help. Or it can help many years later like it did for me.

This book is a MUST read for caregivers, families of a dying family member or friend. Even for the Dying patient. I was given this book when I signed up to be a volunteer for our local hospice. It opened my eyes. After you read this book you will have a feeling like no other. It will open your eyes on death and what happens to someone before they are gone. It will help you cope and understand what is happening to your loved one. This is a must read for everyone.

i'm not sure that i believe all that is written in this book about Nearing Death Awareness. the author states that a person can pick the time of death. having been a nurse for many years, i've seen some things like this but do not think it is the norm.
it is a good read for anyone in the medical field or losing someone or just being human.

Excellent book! I'm in school now for human services; contemplating hospice work - what an amazing look into the 'voice' of the dying. Very eye opening!
