I really enjoy Hailey's "slice of life" writing style and his ability to keep mutiple connected, but not always entirely interdependent, plots going simultaneously. Unfortunately, the books just aren't timely anymore. When people didn't know how airports and hospitals and hotels operated, I can see why these books were so popular. But, nowadays, we get plenty of detail on hospitals and pathology by watching ER. But still, though they've not aged as well as they could have, they're still good reads.

Hailey was one of the first to make modern happenings into novels that make you think about what might happen next.

This book is a fairly interesting medical drama. It tells of the hospital back in the 60's. There are several different characters but the main one seems to be Dr. Pearson. He is an aging pathologist who walks around the hospital with a cigar in his mouth (not in this day and age, huh?). It tells of his knowledge and leadership, but his inablility to test new ideas and procedures. In my opinion, this is a good book!
