I am not a huge comic book geek. I picked this up on a whim and was engrossed within a few panels. Darkseid, one of the New Gods of Apokolips, is broadcasting an Anti-Life equation that forces all to submit to his whims; it's a world with no hope, no desire, only despair. In the midst of all this, there's a large metaphysical narrative that involves Superman being used to battle some type of vampire-like creature that controls the multiverse. It's confusing for the uninitiated (like me), but I found it satisfying. It was neat to see Green Lantern have a subplot wherein he's accused of murdering Orion, and taken before a tribunal of Alpha Lanterns and Guardians. For all his ring-based powers, he's little more than a cog in a large intergalactic machine.
