This is a tough one to review--I can't put it down but I am not sure I really like it. If you are expecting The Walton's TV Show you will be disappointed. Hamner's writing is gripping and strong, but this is not a family book. The characters are gritty, real, and often not nice or likable. There are references to sex, nudity, drunkeness, and death. If it is based on real experiences then Hamner had a tough childhood--much tougher than the Walton's ever had!
It is a book that, once I am done, I will be glad I read. But I am not sure I would say I 'enjoyed' it.
