The construction of courtroom narratives is a theme explored by a number of the books contributors. These chapters examine how rules of evidence may confine, distort and silence womens stories and serve to undermine womens credibility. Other chapters set out to expose the inherent gender bias and discriminatory impact of ostensibly gender neutral evidentiary rules such as the hearsay rule and the rules relating to evidentiary privileges. Within the book, rules of evidence are examined in the context of both criminal and civil trials. Examples are drawn from several jurisdictions.« less
