David Burns book is a helpful book for any one suffering from depression. I attended a seminar of his about 8 months and then bought all his books. If you follow his plan you will start to ease your depression.

If you suffer from severe depression, this book could literally save your life. If you just have mild or moderate depression, or just feel that life could be a bit better, it is still a HUGE help! This book totally turned my life around.

This is the definitive popular book on the management of depression using "cognitive-behavioral" techniques. It is a self-help book backed up by reams of clinical evidence. It really works if you follow the book carefully--admittedly not always an easy thing to do. Definitely a worthwhile read.

I am a practicing psychotherapist and this is the one book I ask all my clients to read. While it may appear long, it is an easy read filled with examples that clearly illustrate Dr. Burns' points. I have to admit that I don't always agree with every example, but despite my minor quibbles, the book is an excellent, understandable explanation of cognitive behavioral techniques that can improve anyone's life by teaching people how to think differently. Based on the work of Dr. Beck and Dr. Albert Ellis, the strategies Dr. Burns recommends are well researched and scientifically validated. My clients have all found the book to be useful and informative, as well as easy to comprehend, but they all agree that there is a great deal of information presented, and it takes time to absorb everything Dr. Burns discusses. Another excellent book along these lines, that is shorter and an equally good read, is "Resilience" by Karen Reivich and Andrew Shatte.

AMAZING BOOK!!! It helped me realize what kind of therapy works for me as well as what kind of work I would like to go into.
This book introduces the principles of Cognitive Therapy, which teaches us that by changing the way we think we can alter our moods, deal with emotional problems, and get rid of depression without the use of drugs.
My psychiatrist recommended this book & it does help a bit. If you suffer from minor to even major depression, you will find this book helpful.
The clinically proven drug-free treatment for depression...you feel the way you think...Albert Ellis, PhD says "clear, hard-headed and practical"...twisted thinking, self-esteem, love-addiction, hostility, guilt, criticism, need for approval all these are covered and more...
This is a fine ompanion to cognitive therapy, helping you to work through the concepts and apply them to everyday situations.
Thinking your way into feeling good. Technique to stop negative thinking.
excellent guide
I suffer from clinical depression and must take an anti-depressant. I have also been to many 'therapists' over the years. While for some people going through the normal ups and downs of everyday life Dr. Burns 'therapy' might help, but for those who have a chemical imbalance and require medication, this book does absolutely no good.
This is an excellent book. His strategies are ones that I incorporate daily into my life and I am a happier person!
this book helps if you decide to go no medication to deal w/your mental health.
wys of dealing with depression
I am not really for any therapy that tells the patient THEY are the problem and THEY can solve it just by thinking other thoughts. That does not make problems go away. If I need to calm down I'd rather take a pill than read this book.
