This book is presented as (and technically is) a children's book, but the language is not pared down so far that it diminishes the magic of the stories as many children's books, do. I think any adult who finds value in the original stories of Hans Andersen and the brothers Grimm will find something similar here - the Russian snows and forests are particularly reminiscent of Grimm; and there are recurrent motifs that any lover of fairy tales will recognise.
