FATHER CHRISTMAS: Wow! What a story nestled within constant humor and jokes. I loved the characters, especially the H and h, plus the twins.
Graceanne Warrington, a vicar's daughter, and a war hero's widow is the mother of a pair of three-year-old twin boys. After coming back home to the vicarage after the death of her husband, she and her children are not much wanted by the vicar.
The Duke of Ware is looking for a wife; actually, he just wants some heirs. He's already outlived two wives -- without gaining any offspring. When he realizes that his dead cousin's widow has two children, he decides to offer for the older twin to become his heir. Little does he realize what a war he has started with his cousin's widow.
The story is only 214 pages but is chock-full of events, emotions and humor. Don't miss it! 5 STARS
CHRISTMAS WISHES: This is a very different type of story from the one above. Juneclaire Beaumont is a used and barely tolerated poor relation in her aunt and uncle's home. Junecaire has to make a serious decision over a crisis in her aunt's home, and she decides to join the old, retired housekeeper, who now lives in London.
While traveling, she meets a handsome stranger. Instead of taking advantage of her, the Earl of St. Cloud becomes protective of her. When they become separated, a comedy of sorts ensues, while Merry St. Cloud tries to find her again.
Metzger's pen creates a ghost-who-isn't and a passel of unattractive and conniving St. Cloud relatives, who try to separate Juneclaire and Merry. Humor and whimsey abound, as well as outlandish goings-on. I didn't like this story as much as the previous one, but it is a diverting way to spend a few hours. 4 stars
