Another good story in her Max Tudor series. This time it is coming onto Christmas and the old Lord Footrustle has invited all his family to his humongous house on the edge of a cliff. But the next day, the Lord Footrustle is found dead in bed having been stabbed and apparently also dead is Lady Baynard, a pompous, snobbish, nose-in-the-air old battleax. Add in the adopted daughter, Lamorna, poor Lamorna who only sought love and a sense of belonging, and is instead treated as a servant and all of the other relatives and their cold, greedy hearts. Max is asked to stay at the house by DCI Cotton, of whom he has had experience with before at another murder, and is told to try to ferret out any clues as to who murdered these two.
