Lt. Sam Holland and her team are investigating a housefire in an affluent neighborhood that left two people dead. This wasn't an accident. The bodies had been tied up, beaten, and tortured before the house was set on fire. Are they the owners of the house? If so, where are their five-year-old twins? As Sam digs into the owner's past, Sgt. Tommy Gonzales has his own problems. He is still blaming himself for his former partner's death. This has affected his job and his relationship with his fiancée Christina.
This is another good addition to the Fatal series. The case they were working was intriguing. The family had changed their names and moved to Washington DC after a serious threat against them. Did the father's former partner catch up with them? I wasn't sure what was going on with them since the mother seemed afraid to leave her kids alone, but the father really wasn't hiding himself very well at all.
Gonzo is suffering from PTSD after seeing Detective Arnold killed right in front of him. He is also abusing opioids and spiraling out of control. I found this situation very realistic in the way it was handled. My rating: 4 Stars.
