Troy is fat and stands out in a crowd. He envisions everyone laughing at him with his every move. He is friendless and wants to end his life, however can only envision people laughing at that. Curt is legendary, he used to go to Troy's school but just walked out one day and hangs out with a well known and sucessful punk rock band. Curt himself can draw a huge crowd on his guitar. Curt pulls Troy away from a train and in returns demands lunch, from there Curt becomes convinced that Troy will become his drummer. Troy goes along with Curt's dellusions and eventually both learn what it means to have a friend and gain the support system needed to turn around their lives. The book is hilarious and deep at the same time. Troy's struggles and revelations hit home to just about anyone. The language is strong at some points and serves to make Troy extreemely believable.
