Really enjoyed this book for most part. It definitely held my attention and had some great character building. It's about the "After", when a virus of some kind turns people into blood sucking creatures. There are places that are called farms set up to protect the teenagers since the creatures seem to be more attracted to their blood. In one of these farms we find twin sisters Lily and Mel. Lily has always been the one to take care of Mel since Mel has autism. She took care of her in the "Before" and now in the "After" at the farm. Soon they'll be 18 and the higher ups at the farm will send them on their way. But Lily suspects this is not true. Sure, they are turning 18 but she doesn't think they'll just let them go. She, with the help of Mel, come up with an escape plan but they find that escaping might be the least of their worries.
Like I mentioned before, I really got into this book and enjoyed it. The only peeves I have is there was a lot on describing the Ticks throughout the book but each time it was pretty much the same description. Yeah, I got it and if there's not more to it, then drop it. Also, even though I enjoyed Lily's character, I hate how she kept making stupid decisions. I know this can be typical in YA books but can't say that I like it. There's even a point that she realizes she keeps making these stupid decisions and still makes them afterwards. I tolerated this and still enjoyed the book but it definitely took a star off for me.

This book is not easily put into any one category: a little dystopian/cataclysmic, a little paranormal, with a hint of romance.
Lily and her autistic twin Mel live in a "farm," where all the teenagers are food for the zombies who feed on blood, known as ticks. Lily is planning to escape with Mel. Along comes Carter, who the girls knew from "the before." Lily is rightfully suspicious, because Carter has specifically been looking for Lily, for his own reasons.
Its been a long time since I've ever felt real fear for a character in a book. But, I did in this one. Love this book, and will definately be looking for the second one.
