This book was an amusing take on the classic science fiction theme of characters living in a post war or perpetual war time. It's a world where they can't remember how they all got there and why. Jeter does a fair job of creating a believable alternate reality. He takes you on a breakneck race (of course against time) literally through the world he has created. The characters he breathes life into are desperate and clever. It's typical Jeter; fast, dark and dirty. A sideways Mad Max... complete with its own twisted kind of Thunderdome.
