Hialeah Jackson, the author, is really Polly Whitney in a clever plastic disguise, so to speak. Polly is one funny lady and a terrific writer, so you can bet this is a good book.

It is. The premise is a bit hard to swallow. We have a drop-dead gorgeous, highly intelligent young woman protagonist who is also hearing impaired. Deaf, as it were. Her sidekicks and some of the characters are pretty broadly drawn, but somehow it all works.

The story is unusual--this is not your grandmother's Agatha Christie story, not by a long ways. It's bright, funny, moves along at a mile a minute, and surprises you at every turn. And yet, you still get the feeling that you're reading a mystery novel, not just a wild satiric farce, like a Carl Hiassen book feels. (Hiassen is over the top for me; it doesn't work.)

I recommend this series. (By the way, this second one in the series is a bit more believable than the first one, which was verrrrrrry close to going over the top for me.)

This is the second outing for Annabelle Hardy, the hearing-impaired owner of Miami's largest corporate security firm. One of the company's clients is the Hemingway Museum in Key West. When a murder occurs on the museum's grounds, Annabelle takes on the investigation herself. This series by the pseudonymous Jackson is well written, Annabelle and her employees are well drawn, and the plots unusual. This is a good series for those preferring their mysteries cozy.
