I picked up this book on my Kindle a few weeks back when it was on special for 99 cents. I always tell myself I have to get into more genre horror novels, seeing as horror is sort of my thing so it doesn't make sense I don't read more horror novels.

I read this book in 2 days, maybe 5 hours total. It's a quick read and interesting enough to keep you up at night to see what weird shit is gonna happen next.

The basic story is that a man inherits a family inn after one of his last family members passes away. Reluctantly, he travels from Chicago to Appalachia to see the inn and is introduced to the strangest extended family one could ever imagine. The Family Inn is built around a monster of a tree, and the property, and the tree, has been in the family possession for over 150 years. He is also introduced to the "blood of the tree" - the sap which the family ferments and processes into a mead-like drink. He is told the drink heals the body and slows down aging.

Actually, that's only a small portion of what is happening in this book. There is a lot of strange things shoved in this short novel and on top of all that there is a a LOT of sex. I mean, an incredible amount of sex. At one point I finished a sex chapter and the beginning of the next chapter was another lady approaching the guy for more sex. As a horror lover, obviously gratuitous sex doesn't bother me, however the amount of times the main character thinks to himself "I can't believe 3 beautiful women are trying to fuck me - this is crazy!" got pretty annoying. It just felt way too much like the author's fantasy than anything.

There isn't a lot of violence in this book, usually it's overshadowed by the sex, mostly the book is about the creepy atmosphere of the inn, the family, and the tree. If you don't mind chapters full of "crazy" sex and like a good weird family tale, then I would recommend this one.
