This is a very important book that *everyone* should read. Jeff Sharlet explores the alarming organization called The Family, a group that beliefs that Christianity supports the powerful, and blind allegiance to the powerful. As a result, the Family has a long history of cozying up to fascists, including, but not limited to those involved with Nazi Germany, and dictatorships in the Muslim world.

Jeff Sharlet shares what he heard and experienced during his time with The Family, and he also devotes a lot of time to background history; the history of Christian fundamentalism, and the personal history of Abram Vereide, the founder of The Family.

The Family's theocratic meddling in international politics will show itself to be alarming.

Sharlet is also able to relate the differences between The Family's elitist fundamentalism, and the common populist fundamentalism so many think of, and how the two mirror each other at this point in time.

Excellent work with Jeff Sharlet, and you must read this book!

The family is a fairly comprehensive look of The Family at the time that the book was written. They have gone more underground since the book was written. But it's interesting to see how groups form and become powerful

This is a scary book and what is even scarier is that it is TRUE!!! Many times people have used religion to account for a lot of things they have done----war, mass murder, etc. The Family has been around for a while and members have made it into various parts of the government, congressmen, cabinet members, presidents, the military, dictators, and a list of a lot more. They are for the elite, not for poor people or people in need. They have no agenda (yeah, right) but say they listen to what Jesus tells them and do it. It is just insidious how they operate. Yeah, we really do have good reason to be scared.
